The Asteroids game was first released in 1979, by Atari. The Asteroids arcade game went on to become Atari’s best selling arcade game ever! The game was so popular, video arcades had to attach larger coin boxes to the machines, to hold all the coins spent to play asteroids. Today you can continue to play asteroids online free.

Objective
You play the role of a spaceship lost in an asteroid field. The goal of this free Asteroids game is to shoot the asteroids around you, scoring you points. You’re aim is to destroy all the asteroids before you collide with them and die. The more pointsyou earn the better.

You have to avoid the debris when the asteroids are shot and break into smaller asteroids, which you must also destroy.

Watch out for flying saucers and shoot them if you can. Avoid being hit by the flying saucer or it’s counter fire. If you are hit by either you will die.

You can randomly teleport to another part of the screen, but this is a higly risky strategy. If you have very little fuel left don’t try and teleport. Also, when you try to do this you will have no control where you could land. This means you could land on top of an asteroid and die, or on top of a flying saucer or in it’s path, again causing you to lose a life.

Once you have destroyed all the asteroids and flying saucers, more asteroids will appear.

The game ends when you have lost all your lives.

Asteroid Game Controls
Rotate Left – left arrow key
Rotate Right – right arrow key
Thrust Forward – up arrow key
Fire/Shoot – spacebar
Hyperspace (teleport randomly) – shift key

Scoring in Asteroids Game
Large Asteroids – 25 points
Small Asteroids – 50 points
Flying Saucer – 250 points
Enemy Missile – 500 points

A new ship (extra life) is given every 5000 points earned!!
